New Haven Branchlines to the Cape
1964 was the last year New Haven offered passenger service from New York to the Cape via the trains known as the Cape Codder and The Neptune. At Buzzards Bay, the train split into a section for Hyannis and another section for Woods Hole. John spent Labor Day 1964 riding out from NYC to the Cape. He photographed with sections of the train at the yard in Hyannis and depot at Woods Hole. As a bonus are some maritime shots as he rides the ferry from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven. One of the boats later starred in the movie Jaws. Oh, and check out the photo of the world famous submersible Alvin. It is just sitting there, at Woods Hole. Need to find an H-bomb on the ocean floor? Special thanks to Joel Rosenbaum for assistance with dating these photos as 1964, the last year NH offered passenger rail service here. Obviously, John knew the end was near when he recorded these views a couple weeks prior to train-off.
