Newark Subway Loop At Franklin Avenue
In January 1954 the Newark, N.J. subway obtained unneeded PCC cars from Minneapolis since they had converted to all bus. These PCCs would replace the Brill Cars that the Public Service Of New Jersey ran on this system to Newark''''s Penn Station. In order for the new PCCs to operate on the system, a new loop had to be constructed at Franklin Avenue because unlike the old Brill cars, the PCC''''s were not bi-lateral trolley equipped, they needed to turn around on a loop track. This series of shots shows the construction of that loop track at Franklin Ave., as well as some of the Public Service Brill Cars that would soon be cut up for scrap.
