The era of classic streetcars in northern NJ was fast drawing to a close when this timeless photo was snapped. Compromise roof car #8000 on the right was one of the "rapid transit 8000's"; the 8000 series cars were made up of 20 cars formerly of the 2600 and 2700 series. They were refurbished for rapid transit service in the new City Subway Line with "high speed" trucks salvaged from the scrapped Jewett interurbans that, until 1928, ran on the old North Jersey Rapid Transit. At the time of the NJRT's abandonment in late 1928, it was under PSNJ control.
