PRR Shamokin Branch Steam Safari
Inspired by articles in TRAINS written by David P. Morgan on where the some of the last PRR steam could be found working, John seeks out PRR decapods in service at Crowl, PA., on the Shamokin Branch. The Shamokin Branch was an important link between the western PA bituminous coal mines and Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem, which took delivery of the ore from the LV, but not before the loads traversed the Shamokin Branch between Sunbury and Mt. Carmel. The type of work was a perfect way for the decapods, heavy haulers of their day, to end their careers as Pennsy dieselized. His trip yields active PRR steam in the yard at Shamokin, PA., as well.
