Date: 10/20/1956 Road #: PRR 4390
Location: Crowl, PA more... Builder/Model:  2-10-0 more...

The decapods were well suited for the ore moves on the Shamokin Branch as they worked out their final miles. Here 4390 takes water at Crowl.

This location is not Crowl and that is not the general store in the background. The general store had a different roof line and there was not large structure behind it. This location is more likely closer to Shamrock.

Correction on the water tower, I was just informed that it's not the same location in the photo. The store had a siding next to it, and it's not evident in this photo. I am trying to find out where this location is via old track maps.

The location of this shot is at the coordinates 40.87215,-76.595875, you can still see the ROW and the store in the picture, although much of the row is now grass. Another shot of this same location from the front of the store: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showpicture.aspx?id=1376081

Here is another view of the location, taken by John that same October day in 1956, showing the general store mentioned in the comments below: http://www.godfatherrails.com/photos/pv.asp?pid=831

The tracks and water tower are gone, they were removed around 1983, but the right of way and some bridges are still visible. The building to the right which was a general store at the time the photo was taken is still standing, there are a few photos of this spot from other angles in some books I saw.

This image so captures the past that I want to step into it and enjoy October of 1956.
