Godfather First Trip To Chicago
John rode the Gotham Limited to Chicago from Newark with his friend Bill Rosenberg on September 3, 1955. The occasion: The 1955 NRHS Convention in Milwaukee. This group will eoncompass the first portion of the trip, riding to Chicago in an P85br coach with stops in Ohio and Indiana on PRR train #55, an all night run called the "Gotham Limited". It had an afternoon arrival at Chicago Union Station, where John took his first picture on the ground in the Windy City, the first of many more to come. The boys then strolled a couple blocks north to North Western Terminal, where they captured the afternoon rush hour mix of steam powered commuter trains and intercity streamliners including the Portland Rose, then still running on the CNW to the UP connection in Council Bluffs. Except for the restored Ektachrome ASA32 slides taken of the Grand Trunk Western carferry service at Milwaukee, Wisconsin all other slides were taken on restored Anscochrome ASA32 film.
