I always enjoy comparing actual consists to the theoretical based on consist books. In this case we are fortunate to have the relevant PRR consist book for this date available on the Keystone Crossings website:

The "Gotham Limited" was train #55, essentially a NY-Pittsburgh overnight run and Pittsburgh-Chicago daytime trip with a mid-afternoon arrival. The sleeper accommodations favored single occupants so i'm guessing the primary sleeper clientele was businessmen.

Photo taken 60 miles east of Lima, at Bucyrus. The car John is aboard is just crossing Sandusky street, the main north-south drag thru Bucyrus...it's a wonderful shot of small town America gone forever. |
