470 Fall Trip
A circle trip that began and ended at Commercial Street in Portland and ran up through Crawford Notch on the Maine Central, peeling off onto the MEC Beechers Falls Branch, at Quebec Jct. east of Whitefield, N.H. It then ran to Groveton, N.H. When the trip reached Groveton it turned back east on the Grand Trunk and returned to Portland at Commercial Street. The train used MEC power with CNR coaches, borrowed from the Montreal commuter pool, which was available on the weekend. Thanks to Brian Jennison, who also rode this trip and notes that in years prior the annual 470 Club custom was to run from Portland to Island Pond, VT. and back on the GT (CNR). Thanks Brian!
