Covered Wagons Rescue the GG1s
In February 1958 over half of the PRR GG1 fleet was disabled due to fine snow particles entering through air intakes. It was one of the only times the GG1s failed in their half-century of service. The PRR brought in diesel locomotives to run the trains, including those from foreign roads like the Atlantic Air Line. Consequently, I photographed a variety of ACL power under the wires at Harrison, New Jersey where it would take the PRR fleet of trains south. The Blue Ribbon Fleet to the west was handled by PRR E units.
