Most of family lived in Altoona our whole lives. We're fine. My grandmother did say that when she hung the laundry out to dry it did tend to get dirty from coal smoke. She lived in Juniata only a few blocks from the shops. Great memories though. I love that town!

Can you imagine living in Altoona during the steam era. You would probably have black lung and everything you touched would be covered in black soot.
