Pennsy's two E-3b experimental B-B-B electrics were produced by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton (the bodywork and running gear) and Westinghouse (electrical equipment). In 1952-1953, PRR took delivery of ten new experimental locomotives, 6 from GE and 4 from Westinghouse. GE's were all class E-2b, but Westinghouse units came in two classes. Two had two 3-axle trucks (E-2c), while the other two had an unusual arrangement of three 2-axle trucks (the E-3b shown above)! All these experimental locomotives were scrapped in 1964 when the GE E-44 “bricks” took over. |
