#2614 was one of PS's "compromise" roof cars; this, basically, being an updated clerestory.
It is interesting that this car is still signed for the #29, which had been converted to bus two years before this photo was taken.
The #29 was the very last of the connecting subway-surface lines to operate via the city subway in Newark.
The "subway car-save time and parking" legend on the side of the car was emblazoned on all of the cars used on the subway and its connecting surface lines.
The discarded truck gives silent testimony to the tough, rugged, solid construction of these electrified behemoths of another age.
I am most fortunate to own a controller handle from one of these cars, as well as a rollsign curtain segment; these treasures were given to me by one of the city subway shop crew whom I knew, over 40 years ago. |
