This photo nicely illustrates the problem with the shadow-line paint scheme used by Pullman as well as several railroads in the post-WW2 years. When relatively new (as on the second car) it looked OK but after numerous car-washings and weathering that removed portions of the darker lines (as on the first car) it looked ratty. No surprise that most users reverted to a more traditional paint scheme after a few years. |
