Built in 1905, the graceful "Elmira" had the distinction of being the very last steam ferry to operate on the Hudson. After the Barclay St. crossing was shut down in November of 1967, the "Elmira" sat idle for a number of years. For a time, she was moored at Perth Amboy, NJ, and could be seen from the Staten Island rapid transit station at Tottenville.

After partially sinking at her moorings, she was later towed away for scrap, a sad ending for a once-grand ship.
