The ferry Lackawanna is seen in the distance with a riverfront backdrop.

On a gray day in 1967, we see the "Lackawanna" heading downriver from Hoboken to Barclay Street. Virtually everything seen on the New Jersey side of the Hudson (Jersey City) has long since vanished.

One exception is the massive brick building with tall smokestacks; this was the H&M RR (later PATH) power house on Washington Street. It was originally equipped with four massive Curtis vertical steam turbines. It had not been used in such capacity since the late 1920's, but was used in other capacities in later years until it was finally abandoned.

Derelict for many years, it has now received landmark designation; the lofty, gutted interior will need much in the way of restoration work and general stabilization. Sadly, the towering smokestacks were removed a few years back.
