The commuters are mostly die-hards who work within a short distance to the terminal.

Looking like a scene straight out of "Mad Men", a throng of smartly-dressed suburbanites crosses West St., after having debarked from either the "Elmira" or the "Lackawanna", bound for their offices. Notice, too, the large percentage of male commuters still wearing hats. This was still an era where "dressing for business" was still the rule.....how times have changed!

Today it is hard to believe that nothing seen here exists; today, Battery Park City occupies this area. When this photo was taken in 1967, there was still a profound excitement......a twice-a-day drama.....that surrounded the rush hours.

Today, with the vast majority of commuters now "dressing down", and the bland, insipid, modern commuter equipment now in charge of "moving the masses", rush hours are just a vast wave of people moving from point "A" to point "B". All of the color, drama, and excitement has long since vanished.
