Southern 4501 gets coaled at Columbia enroute to Charleston for the 1970 Convention. It was added to the point of the Carolina Special, one of two special trains, on it's southbound run from Washington, D.C. at Spartanburg, S.C. The other special originated at Atlanta, with the Southern 722 added at Augusta for the run into Charleston.

Great shot and one aspect that is now gone is the old Seaboard Air Line viaduct seen in the background to the left of the frame. I'd be interested to know if there were shots of it taken on this day.
