Our train makes the turn onto the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge, crossing the Susquhenna River. This bridge third at this site, was dismantled in 1963. The first was destroyed in 1863 by State Militia as fears of a Rebel invasion were high at the time just before the Gettysburg battle. Of interest is the telephone box and apparatus seen left, the Low Grade line was one of the first stretches of RR to use telephone communications. This bridge was a combo RR and auto bridge until the 1930s.
