Passengers detrain after arrival at Popes Creek. Here the engines will run around the train and take it to Washington Union Station. It's been an interesting daylong trip, so far. According to John, there are additional views he shot that day, we'll keep an eye open for them in that 1955 slide file for a future update.

One day in 1980 I drove down here with another Trainmaster and we went to the old Popes Creek terminal. Only found a pier with some rails on it and some ex-PRR lighters (barges) still lettered PRR with large keystones on their sides sitting there in the mud adjacent. I recall this as I stepped on a large rusty nail on he pier that went through my foot and I had to get a tetanus shot to protect myself and I recovered. A later visit found that "someone" had scrapped all the rail that was about and the lighters had been burned to the water level. You can see where the rails came into town and it appeared that was a wye down there but i can't recall for sure at this late date. I would love to see more photos shot anywhere along this line as it brings back memories. Water St. yard I recall from seeing as a passenger passing by before i worked on the RR. Jersey Yard is still there under CSX to a limited extent. I had a YM at Benning Yard who had been the PRR at Rosslyn when it was open. The Rosslyn Branch was described as a connecting track and I only know it as the Rosslyn Branch and the whole thing was owned and operated by PRR to the best of my knowledge. I meant to say in my post about the PRR passenger engines at Bowie,Md. The manufacturer, EMD, referred to them as E7s but on the PRR they were known as EP-20s, not EP-40s, e=emd, p=passenger, 20=2,000hp each. waiting for more.
