The location of this image is on the Economy Branch (Economy Secondary at the time this image was taken) in Ambridge, PA. This view is looking (railroad) west at the Economy Freight House located on Eleventh Street. The Economy Branch, also referred to as “The Economy Belt Line”, was constructed in 1903 with numerous additions over the years to meet industrial expansion. The freight house and track layout in this view were built in 1916. The H.J. Heinz branch facility was established in Ambridge in 1919. the large industrial building behind the freight house is part of the 17 acres that comprise the National Electric Products Corporation; at one time the world’s largest rigid conduit plant. The track layout from left to right: runaround track occupied with the tank car; secondary running track occupied by the cabin car; team track; and to the right of the freight house the two house tracks.
