After utilizing the Maquoketa River valley for a few miles out of Green Island, IA. to climb out of the Mississippi River valley, #107 is in the rolling hills of eastern Iowa ready to duck under US61 a few miles west of Delmar at 10 mph.

This is just west of Spragueville, IA about to go under Highway 64. This is all level farm field now and quite unrecognizable. The concrete culvert under the eighth car is still there though.
Those were the days! What great memories these shots bring back. Matched sets of weary cab units, slow track speeds and Kodachrome slide film. Thanks again John, and happy 80th birthday to you! We stood side by side back then at the Olin depot back in '79 as they wheezed by on the super elevation, we thought they would end up on their sides in the snow...... I remember it well.
