Another point: The Nite-Kraft factory in the background, later Champ hats, was just demolished a few weeks ago, in late spring 2012.
Can you imagine your job being to sit in a little shed for eight hours, and go out in the street and hold up a sign and flag when a train is coming, because they didn't allow whistle blowing through town? That's the "good ol' days" of "full employment" of the 1950s for you! |

this train, from its appearance, is 99% guaranteed to be daily local s71 running from northumberland to selinsgrove junction, then out the selinsgrove industrial to the pp&l power plant in shamokin dam (the coal hoppers) and out the line to selinsgrove, middleburg, and/or mcclure(the boxcars at the front). out-and-back locals replaced through trips over the line to and from lewistown in 1953; the prr abandoned the track between mcclure and maitland in 1957. |
