Wth its colorful gallery of advertising posters, typical of New York-area commuter stations, the former Erie station at Passaic awaits the next train to or from Hoboken.

The rows of ads at the various stations and terminals always added an exciting "big city" atmosphere to the depots......the bright lights of Gotham were never very far away!

Prior to the Erie's shifting its trains up to Hoboken, commuters who boarded trains here rode into the Erie Terminal at Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City, where connections to Manhattan were made via either Erie ferries or the Hudson Tubes. Note that the old "Erie Railroad" sign is still intact; during the early years of the E-L merger, much was still lettered for either the Erie or the Lackawanna. The 1950's autos, like the portion of the old S.S. Kresge sign (just visible in the background) further add to the nostalgic aura of this bygone scene.
