The SP 6017 is a very unique unit. It was the oldest diesel locomotive owned by SP. Originally built as an E2 in 1937 for the City Of San Francisco, ownership of the locomotive passed to SP in 1948 when the City's joint ownership pool was discontinued. It was rebuilt as an E7 in 1953 and retired in 1966.
