Date: 10/3/1953 Road #: PSCT 8000   (3 photos)
Location: Newark, NJ more... Builder/Model:  Passenger more...

A meet occurs between two PSCT Cars, inbound #3213 and outbound #8000 at the south end of Franklin Avenue Terminal. A road for connecting bus services is seen at the left and to the right of the tracks is Branch Brook Park. The stub end terminal was just below the Erie Orange Branch of the Greenwood Lake Line with the PSCT stub abuting it. Thanks Mr. Horvath for the proper Erie identification.

It is of interest to note that the current incarnation of the Newark City Subway as a light-rail line was essentially extended from this former terminal westward along the former Erie Orange Branch which is now the Norfolk Southern's Orange Running Track. NS local freights still use this trackage, co-existing with light-rail operations. In a small way this preserves the tradition of passenger and freight service co-existing on interurban lines and 'street' railways of the past.

It was the Erie's Orange branch of the Greenwood Lake line that was proximate to this location, not the Newark branch which was about a mile to the east.
