In it's last year of operation a Milwaukee Road freight passes the old passenger platforms and depot standing at Delmar, about 15 miles west of the Mississippi River. Eastern Iowa was a good place to find Milwaukee covered wagons serving out their final days. |

Being someone who is too young to remember the Milwaukee Road (and others) I always wondered as a kid why there was a depot in this little town that had no tracks. As I got older and studied it more I obviously found out why. The town did a great job in restoring the depot and today a relative of mine helps to run the museum which occupies it today. |

With regard to dating the photos, most of which were unlabeled slides, we start with the process date on the slide and work our way "back" to a corrected date later on when we get more information, like Mr. Uhelski's observation would suggest. Since John Dziobko often processed slides in mass batches months after shooting them, it is quite possible a March 1979 processing date coincides with when he got his tax refund back and was able to develop film, including film piling up in the refrigerator from the previous year. So, lets go with an autumn 1978 date here, like late October. Foliage would look about right for October, wouldn't you say? |

This photo shot in March? The grass looks too green for that early. Delmar is a bit farther than a few miles from the Mississippi as I recall . Thanks for these postings of train 106 & 107 - brings back great memories of these chases way back then. |
